Exchange 2010 unattended mailbox install documentation is incorrect

A minor but frustrating documentation bug exists in the current Exchange 2010 RTM and SP1 documentation and build guides, specifically around the public examples to build the mailbox role from the command line.

The Installation Guide Template – Mailbox Server references the following example:

setup.com /r:M /mdbName "<Server Name> MBX DB1" /dbfilepath e:\MBXDB1\priv01.edb /logfolderpath l:\log01

The Example is incorrect and produces the following result

The parameters specified are either missing additional required parameters or are not valid together.

To list the available command-line parameters, type Setup /?

Similarly the Installation Guide Template – DAG Member install example  states:

setup.com /r:MB /mdbName "<DAGName> MBX Store 1" /dbfilepath e:\mdb1\priv01.edb /logfolderpath l:\log01

and produces the same result

The parameters specified are either missing additional required parameters or are not valid together.

To list the available command-line parameters, type Setup /?

The fix is really easy – the documentation is missing colons i.e. “:” after the switches, for example:

setup.com /r:MB /mdbName "<DAGName> MBX Store 1" /dbfilepath e:\mdb1\priv01.edb /logfolderpath l:\log01

becomes

setup.com /r:MB /mdbName:"<DAGName> MBX Store 1" /dbfilepath:e:\mdb1\priv01.edb /logfolderpath:l:\log01

make sure to add a colon after every switch, i.e  /mdbName: /dbfilepath: /logfolderpath:

Many thanks to Jetze Mellema for pointing this out.
